About the Author
Susan Cameron is Master Teacher and Chair of Voice and Speech, CAP21, New York University, and is dialect coach for feature film and TV. She is a specialist in accent reduction, and has taught thousands of students from all over the world, most famously, in 1993, Japanese prime minister Hosokawa in preparation for his United Nations address before the General Assembly--the first given in English by a Japanese prime minister. Cameron has consulted for Cartus Language Specialists in working on accent modification with the human resources departments of many international corporations who outsource technological help. Her clients have included foreign executives at American Express and actors wishing to perfect an American accent. She has taught nearly every accent in the world.

My rating for this book will remain at 1 star until the publisher/Amazon fix the video download.

To be fair I have not read more than 3 pages of the book (kindle) to decide that this book is of little use to me BECAUSE there is NO VIDEO DOWNLOAD whatsoever with the kindle version, rendering this book completely and utterly useless. Tip for publishers/Amazon: before you convert a book to the electronic format, you might want to make sure that all that essential supplementary materials are accessible to the readers, because there is nothing readers hate more than shelling out the money for a book that has been touted as the greatest tool ever only to find that the tool isn't there at all.

Very complete, precise - best method I tried

Amazing tool to help reduce foreign accent.
CD/DVD are extremely useful to understand how to focus on the specific single sound. Susan's precise description of the sounds, and the hand/mouth analogy are very useful, even for self study, to understand what the correct pronunciation is. Once the correct sound is understood, the book provides several exercises to apply it: exhaustive list of words, contrasting sounds practice, use in phrases. It is also very precise: it lists exceptions and different uses.
Now, do not expect this to be a magic recipe that would get rid of your accent in a week: it takes a lot of time and patience. I still have an accent and I am still working on it. However, I did correct several sounds, and improved in others. People understand me much better, and I do know how to pronounce any word without accent , if I take my time.
Compared to two other books/systems I tried, this was definitely the most effective, hands down.

This product contains 2 audio cds and 1 DVD in addition to the book--the whole package works together to help users reduce their accents and/or discover tools to pronounce difficult sounds in English. Please note: the cds and DVDs are *not* auto run--they don't immediately start upon insertion.
Troubleshooting for DVDs:
1) insert your DVD into your disc drive--the disk will *not* auto start.
2) Go to "My Computer" and double-click on the DVD in the disc drive, which is labeled "PYEP_FINAL" (if you get an error message, disregard).
3) Once the DVD menu opens, you can begin viewing the activities by clicking *to the left* of each title.

Troubleshooting for Audio CDs:
1) Insert Audio CD into your disc drive--the disc will *not* auto start.
2) Go to "My Computer" and double-click on the cd in the disc drive, labeled "Audio CD"
3) Depending on your operating system, you may receive an error message, or message about writing a blank CD. Please *disregard* this error message. Open the "Audio CD" icon--while the disc is unlabeled, it is *not* blank and includes the audio exercises and correct pronunciations. The tracks are unnamed--they are simply numbered by track.
4) Once you've double-clicked on the Audio CD, the audio will begin to play. There are 26 tracks on each CD.

Troubleshooting for Macs:
1) Insert the Audio CD or DVD into the disc drive. An "Audio CD" Icon or DVD Icon named "PYEP_FINAL" will appear.
2) Open the disc icon. For the Audio CD, a folder with a list of tracks will appear. These tracks are the playable audio content. For the DVD, when you open the DVD icon, the DVD menu will appear. You can begin viewing activities by clicking to the left of each title (a box will appear)

A no nonsense fitness book. I have bought quite a few fitness books, but I will use this one to get in to shape. This book isn't pretty but it provides ample instuction and has a great workout plan. It is written in plain language, it is easy to follow and the workouts are tough and rugged. All you need is a pull up bar, running shoes and a h@ll of a lot of motivation!

Wonderful Reference for Beginners

HEIRLOOM VEGETABLES by Benjamin Watson is a good starting point if you are interested in growing historic varieties of seed. Opening with an explanation of heirloom vegetables, it also touches base on organic control of pests and diseases. In deference to what another reviewer wrote, pages 7-13 supply you with basic seed-saving practices. Of course, there are several great books if you are looking for in-depth information such as Nancy Bubel's THE NEW SEED STARTERS HANDBOOK or Carol Deppe's BREED YOUR OWN VEGETABLE VARIETIES.

'The Plant Gallery' includes clear and colorful portraits that help you to identify some one-hundred-plus garden vegetables that are available for you to grow. I have tried many of these and Mr. Watson does a fantastic job of showing you what they look like. It helps that many of the consultants to this reference encompass a large area of expertise and are authors of their own books.

Another section is devoted to each vegetable with a short description, brief instructions on how to grow and harvest it and pests and diseases to be aware of. The author recommends varieties for you to consider. Some are found elsewhere in the book and others are not.

There is a good selection of mail order seed sources listed at the back. Seed Savers Exchange is one of the best. I encourage everyone to join this fantastic group of people committed to saving a part of our heritage. As always use the internet to rate the sites. HEIRLOOM VEGETABLES was published in 1996 so some businesses may not be as good as before or have closed. Two great companies that were not listed that I have personally ordered from in the past five years are Sand Hill Preservation Center and Baker Creek Heirlooms. Lastly, the author gives you some excellent works to read, many of which should be found at your local library.

Easy to Read, Lovely Photos

As an organic gardener and lover of vintage, especially within my garden beds, I found this book most helpful. It gives just the amount of info needed, not too much to read, but crucial info even for the novice gardener. I like that it lists a few companies where one can purchase heirloom seeds and I found that most are still current despite the 1996 copyright date. The photos of the dry beans are especially lovely. Combine this book with Mel Bartholomew's Square Foot Gardening and Patricia Lanza's Lasagna Gardening and you will be set.

If you're into heirlooms, this is for your library

With over 200 color photos (which is very good) and descriptions and history on over 500 varieties of heirloom vegetables, it's a good one to have on hand. Also includes brief sections on how grow, seed saving, pests, etc for each family of vegetable.

This was a Christmas gift for my husband who just started collecting coins. It’s very well illustrated and a great book for beginners or advanced collectors. It has instructions on how to clean and care for your coins, and good information on old and valuable coins from around the world.
