About the Author

Thomas G. Gunning, a former junior high English teacher and elementary school reading consultant, is Professor Emeritus, Southern Connecticut State University, where he was department chair and reading clinic director. Currently an Adjunct Professor, Reading/ Language Arts Department, Central Connecticut State University, Professor Gunning has conducted research on group reading inventories, vocabulary assessment, reading disabilities, intervention programs, readability, response to intervention, decoding processes and strategies, and literacy skills needed to cope with high-stakes tests. The Best Baby/Toddler/Child/Sttudent Guide for learning EVER!!!!!!!

This is the best book ever! I had to read it for a class that I thought was surely going to be boring and overwhelming. I enjoyed this book so much I actually purchased it. If you are raising a child or expecting one or even have nieces and nephews around, the book is filled with so many, many resources. I downloaded one resource from the book called busybeavers.com to my niece's iPad and she can count to 15, knows her alphabet up to h and knows her basic shapes by age 1. I put on busybeavers and we sing along and dance for hours. My students are better after reading this researched based informational text because I definitely became a better teacher.

Great overview of literacy instruction

Well written. Lots of research-based information on various aspects of literacy instruction. Lots of great side-vingettes on how to modify instruction for struggling readers. Personal note - special educators should read research findings with a grain of salt, as they don't necessarily apply neatly to our students.

dont buy this text book, it is missing two chapters ( chapter 1 and 2) so it is hard to follow the page when your classmate refers to them on this book. buy the hard-copy even if it is expensive. it was my mistake
