About the Author
Kate is a Mechanical Engineer with almost 20 years of experience using ANSYS for engineering design and analysis in academia and industry. Kate specializes in finite element modeling of micro scale surface phenomena, new product development, design for manufacturing, engineering design theory and methodology, and engineering design education and assessment. She taught ANSYS and finite element analysis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has held engineering faculty positions at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). She earned her S.B., S.M., and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

John is a Mechanical Engineer with almost 50 years of experience using the finite element method for engineering analysis. From 1967 to 1971, he worked with special purpose finite element programs at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He switched to general purpose finite element programs with the initial release of ANSYS in 1971. John served as a consultant to the ANSYS Headquarters Technical Support Group for 20 years where he specialized in nonlinear material models, APDL, User Programmable Features, specialty applications, and other non-standard uses and customizations of the program. He has used ANSYS as a consulting engineer to support Fortune 500 companies and has taught ANSYS and finite element analysis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Technology (KAIST). John is currently a Professor of Industrial and Engineering Technology and a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He earned his B.S.M.E., M.S.M.E., and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Written by two eminent names in oral and maxillofacial surgery, this popular book is now in its 6th edition and is designed to better prepare junior trainees who are considering working in a hospital setting for the first time. The book provides comprehensive guidance on various clinical problems that you may encounter while "on the ward". It is divided into four sections. The first provides an introduction to hospital services and essential information; the second looks at routine procedures that a new appointee may need to know; the third looks at basic knowledge of medicine in relation to dentistry; and the final section looks at a broader range of the clinical work that oral and maxillofacial surgeons do. For this edition eight chapters have been updated to reflect recent changes in clinical practice and a further four new chapters have been added. In particular, the addition of the chapters on radiotherapy and understanding potentially malignant disorders further complements this book as it covers the essential elements trainees would encounter in their day-to-day work. The book is well laid out with each chapter having a number of coloured images to break up the text and for the reader to refer to. Where appropriate, images are often annotated to fully appreciate what is being explained, which I found particularly useful. It also provides fundamental guidance in various circumstances you would encounter while being on call. I also found that most of the book is written as a "survival guide", covering common presentations in the emergency, ward, and clinical settings, which is incredibly practical. One of the only criticisms I found was that it does not have an index, which is rather unfortunate as I find this is indispensable for the reader to locate certain material in the book. I can see why previous editions have been so popular, as it provides a gentle introduction to oral and maxillofacial surgery and an essential guide for all those who are about to embark work in a hospital setting - a must have! this is an excellent book to start with during your surgical rotation. it gives very important basic surgical concepts that you must know. it covers orthopedics,urology and cardiothoracic surgery in a beautiful to-the-point way. you can go through it very fast. it also has very high-yield pictures that you must see during your rotation, however, as usual, the surgery department in my medical school gave us a really hard-time in the final MCQs exam and it had alot of questions that were identical to those in surgical recall. so in the end, i think i should have studied surgical recall more. :(

"I WILL BUILD THIS!"

This a great book for DIYers. It's simple, encouraging and gives good practical information. There are photos and diagrams of the steps in the building process and of completed saunas. I have had this book for two years now and every once in awhile I open it up and dream. The author convincingly explains that the cordwood sauna is really the only way to go.
I think the best thing about this book is that Mr. Roys' advice is very encouraging for someone who only has weekends to work on the project. He writes that you can put a tarp over what you've completed and come back later.
You may ask why my title isn't, "I HAVE BUILT THIS." Let's be honest. While I don't think this a technically hard project, it will be a time consumer. Wish me luck.

With the history of the Sauna going back one thousand years, it is no wonder they are embedded in many cultures. Cordwood masonry construction is a method of building that is both inexpensive and highly efficient. Containing both qualities of insulation and mass, a cordwood masonry wall is both highly energy efficient and suited to the construction of a sauna. The owner-builder will have no trouble learning the contruction methods presented here and will built a structure that can last over one hundred years. Great detail is shown in order for the owner to construct a sauna that uses no electricity and will be a favorite of all of your friends and neighbors. Cordwood masonry is also a great building method for your home also as detailed in Rob Roy's other fine owner-builder books.

This is a decent book on cordwood construction, with some emphasis on saunas, but it shows up frequently in searches of DIY sauna building books. Unlike cordwood construction is on your plate, this isn't the book you want.

There's a nice sauna cabin layout described in the book, but it's just a couple of pages.
