Bought this cookbook and I love it!

This cookbook is so perfect. I refuse to ever buy a cookbook unless it has photos and this book has a photo for each recipe! I bought the cookbook 1 month ago and have already tried 4 different recipes and my husband loves them.
It has several types of different recipes which is a plus (Chicken, pork, steak, veggie sides, desserts, etc) It also gives very helpful tips. I am thinking of purchasing for an upcoming bridal shower!

This is a 500 page book with lots of good looking recipes to try

I actually borrowed this book from a library, and decided to buy one. It's quite a comprehensive cookbook that includes some of the basic comfort foods such as Mac and Cheese, Pot Roast Chicken to more ethnic flavors such as Thai and Mexican. I tried 4 recipes and found 3 to be keepers. The ingredients are more or less basic (nothing elaborate that I need to go to a specialty store for), and directions are clear. This is a 500 page book with lots of good looking recipes to try.

Very detailed book, just what the wife was looking for. This is quite a large and heavy book, she was able to get rid of a few other smaller cook books, and consolidated to this one

About the Author
Forrest Mims has been an electronics hobbyist since building a one tube radio kit at the age of 11. Following graduation from Texas A&M University in 1966 and service as a photo intelligence office in Vietnam, he worked for three years with high-powered lasers, solid-state instrumentation, and trained monkeys with the Air Force Weapons Laboratory in New Mexico. Since becoming a full-time writer in 1970, he's written several hundred magazine articles and scholarly papers. His articles and columns have appeared in virtually every significant electronics magazine, including Popular Electronics, Radio-Electronics, and Modern Electronics. His articles on other scientific topics have appeared in a wide range of other publications, including National Geographic World, Science Digest, Highlights for Children, and Scientific American. His editorial exploits have included an assignment from the National Enquirer to evaluate the feasibility of eavesdropping on Howard Hughes by laser (it was possible, but Forrest declined to take part) and getting dropped by Scientific American as their "The Amateur Scientist" columnist because he admitted to the magazine's editors that he was a born-again Christian. His book sales total in the millions, and he is likely the most widely-read electronics writer in the world.

Errors, Omissions and Typos

I purchased this book based on others previously written by Mr. Mimms. My old collection consisted of his 1980 edition of the Engineer's Notebook series and the Integrated Circuit Projects mini books previously available from Radio Shack. There always seems to be some overlap with his books. I was attempting to update my library since I had not been involved in circuit building for a while. I DO regret purchasing this book. As the title implies, this book should have remained his scrapbook. It contains typos, incomplete info and contradictions with his other published books while using some of the same IC's and circuits. As a result, some circuits don't work properly or not at all. One such example on page 129, the schematic of the general purpose amplifier. He has pin 1 of the 741 op amp as the output to the 386 chip. It should be pin 6 on the 741 chip (output). I attempted the circuit with his pinout and it would never work. Pin 1 is the offset null. Pin 6 is the output of the op amp. Other books of his state the 741 can use a single polarity power supply for non voice purposes and yet this same circuit uses such. He states the same circuit can be used with several type microphones or sensors etc. If used with a condenser mike it cannot be used without additonal parts.

Great little book

Forrest Mims is surely the master for explaning things to the average electronics hobbyist. His hand-sketched drawings and list of interesting applications are a delight to view. I highly recommend this book. However, there are a number of things within it that are simply outdated. For example, I couldn't find one circuit that used a single microcontroller. There are also some obselete projects, such as stop watches that use numerous old logic IC's. In such cases, microcontrollers would be a better approach. Aside from this fact, there is a lot that can be learned from this book.

Great little book full of interesting designs

This little book is full of very interesting little circuits that are reminicent of Don Lancaster's various cookbooks published in the early 1980's. Chapter one on analog circuits contains information you just don't see anymore on how to build various circuits based on op amps. I also really loved the section on test equipment including how to build a very simple solid-state oscilloscope. Every chapter has something "fun" in it, especially the chapter on experimenter and game circuits, such as the simple wind speed indicator. Chapter six, on digital circuits, has the most basic designs. Since the onset of COTS and modular electronics, the typical electrical engineer just no longer gets to have the kind of fun you'll have with these interesting electronic designs. The content is very detailed with complete construction details. I subtract a single star from my rating due to a few errors I found in some of the instructions. However, the errors are pretty obvious to anyone familiar with electronics.

About the Author
Randolph W.Westerfield is Dean Emeritus of the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business and is the Charles B. Thornton Professor of Finance. He came to USC from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he was the chairman of the finance department and a member of the finance faculty for 20 years.

Stephen Ross is presently the Franco Modigliani Professor of Finance and Economics at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. �One of the most widely published authors in finance and economics, Professor Ross is recognized for his work in developing the Arbitrage Pricing Theory and his substantial contributions to the discipline through his research in signaling, agency theory, option pricing, and the theory of the term structure of interest rates, among other topics. �A past president of the American Finance Association, he currently serves as an associate editor of several academic and practitioner journals. �He is a trustee of CalTech, a director of the College Retirement Equity Fund (CREF), and Freddie Mac. �He is also the co-chairman of Roll and Ross Asset Management Corporation.

Be very Careful of Descriptions!

This book was advertised as brand new and still in original wrapping. Although wrapped, this book was originally produced with a Connect Application Card, which was described in detail in the first 4 pages of the book, but was not present with this book. Since it was advertised as new and wrapped, I assumed it would have the card present. It was not indicated in the description as otherwise. The Connect Application Card, purchased seperatly from this book costs $173.99 plus tax, which placed this book well above University Bookstore price (Outragous Markup!!!) Beware and ensure that all contents come with your future purchases if not described. Don't take for granted that all the contents will come with your "brand new book"!

Corporate Finance was an easy to read textbook with many real life examples drawn from companies and current events that a non-finance person is still familiar with. This was my first encounter with a finance curriculum, but the book was easy to follow and clearly explained the most important topics relating to corporate finance. It would have been helpful if the text had worked through a few more problem examples. The rental option was economical compared to buying the actual textbook. The textbook itself was in great condition.

The Tourism System 7th edition sets a new high standard

As one of the two co-authors of The Tourism System, you would expect me to write a positive review of the book. For this reason, I will not try to "over-hype" the text but rather give you an account of what Robert Mill and I see as its differentiating features.

The book is based upon a unique tourism system model and this model organizes all of the contents. The model views tourism as an open system rather than being a tightly defined "industry." Being on the market for 27 years and in seven editions, this tourism system concept has gained widespread recognition around the world.

Instructors that have adopted The Tourism System for their classes really like the "Quick Trip" feature and we think this introduces more practical and international content to the book.

Reviewers have said that The Tourism System is a very well researched book and we can assure you of that. Not only that, it is based on the authors' many years of experiences of working and traveling the globe as educators, consultants, and trainers.

About the Author
SEOK YEE TANG has specialized in wireless communications systems throughout her 23 year career, gaining research, practical, management and leadership experience for military, industry and academic applications. In recent years she has worked with a varied range of companies over three continents. Her wireless communications career started with servicing UHF and VHF and HF radio communications sets used for the communications link between the Air Communications Operations Officers and the Air Force Pilots. She also upheld several leadership positions in her military career. Besides her career in Singapore Air Force, she has also worked for Microwave Communication Inc (MCI) in United States. Other universities and companies she has worked for include Mobile Research Group in University of Surrey in United Kingdom, University of Puerto Rico, Institute of Infocomm Singapore, and NEC in United Kingdom. She has also been an active member of the Technical Program Committees for several international Wireless Communications conferences since 2005. Conferences that she has contributed to organizing include Globecom, VTC and Chinacom. In 2008 she left the corporate world and is presently a financial market trader and also an entrepreneur.

PETER M�LLER joined the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory as a Research Staff Member in 1988, and was appointed the secretary of the IEEE Technical Committee on Communications and Information Systems Security in 2007. His research expertise covers a broad range of areas from information systems architecture and simulation techniques to device physics and nano-science. He holds a number of patents, has published more than 50 scientific articles, books, special journal issues and proceedings, as well as serving as a government counsel and chairing many international conferences and workshops.

DR. HAMID R. SHARIF is the Henson Distinguished Professor of the Computer and Electronics Engineering Department and the Director of Advanced Telecommunications Engineering Laboratory (TEL) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His current research interests include protocols, security, OoS and performance evaluations in wireless communications and networks. He has authored and co-authored over 160 technical papers in major international journals and refereed conferences. He serves as Steering Committee member, Symposium Chair and General Co-Chair of many international conferences, and also contributes as the Editor, Associate Editor, or Editorial Board member for several journals. He is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Wiley’s Security and Communication Networks and a senior member of many professional organizations including IEEE. As the current Chapters Coordinator for IEEE Region 4, he is also the past Chair of the IEEE Nebraska Section and past President of the IEEE Nebraska Computer and Communications Societies.

Challenging but amazing book

Again Robert Thurman is a master of expertise. THIS book will be a challenge but the more I read much easier books and then come back to this more academic version the more I grasp. It is more a scholarly text book but a thrilling addition to the "real" thing. Also It's biggest gift to me was the concept of using my intelligence and brain and mind. Up to now it was all woo-woo and still the mind. This book opens the doors to wisdom which is the other part of the equation. Compassion AND wisdom. After wading thru a few pages of copious foot notes and lecture, my brain was sparking and activated. I am blessed to have discovered it.

A very detailed exposition.

I have 4 Thurman books on Tsong Kha Pa. He is very precise. I do think he could make the translation of this a bit easier, like the 'Life and Teachings' he edited . I strongly advise to get that first if you are fairly new to this subject. All of Thurman's books are over priced, even more so due to the poor quality of the various Indian publishers' used. Get used copies if you can.
The introduction Pre states all he ends up translating in the actual text, yet it is very worthwhile if you, like me, are not a Specialist. Tsong Khapa can get into the most detailed minutia of any subject. 'Blue is blue, but not really blue... so much blue your mind will go numb. Tsongkhapa felt obligated to go into the most minute of details to clear up the True Middle Way teaching for all those who attempted to refute it. It deals a little with Dol Pa's views, which are rather straight forward..to me.
When this text goes into the 'finest' of arguments and refutaions of Yogacharya and many other Schools;.. without being familiar with all 'the Opponent's' views and terminology... there can be quite a bit of difficulty, at least to me. This can become seemingly contradictory, if not non sensical to the Western Reader or Sophist Debator. Obviously some arguments will be non convincing due to modern knowlege and science. Not in any way an introductory text. He also shows the non contradictions in various other schools.
Very few books can combine the academic and the esoteric... Mr. Thurman does that with ease, even though it may not be easy reading. The true Teaching, of the Highest Order imho.
Do prepare though with the Life & Teachings. This is not a Lam Rim or Vinaya teaching...straight Reason, and Sutra based. Small font as always on his books.

Relieves Suffering

The context of the book is the thesis that belief in inherent existence (meaning, roughly, "externally self-standing, permanent, absolute, not-depending-on-anything-else" existence as opposed to "relative" or "dependent on other things" existence) is the source of suffering, because it creates bases for clinging to negative emotions. People hold this belief in many forms, applied to many things, at many levels. Detailed analysis of each instance and/or category of this belief can undermine and weaken that particular belief, and finally shatter it. This relieves the suffering associated with that instance or category of the belief, because negative emotions can no longer "stick" to the objects of the (dissolved) belief. Tsong-Ka-Pah's "Essence of Eloquence" is aimed at analyzing and shattering a form of the belief in inherent existence that operates at a deep psychological level, and yet which can still be accessed through conscious examination and logic. Tsong-Ka-Pah's claim is that this is the deepest such level of belief and corresponding analysis. Thurman's introduction compares Tsong-Ka-Pa's treatise, from the 1300's, with a similar finding by Wittgenstein in the 1900's. Seeing the thesis from these two different perspectives is helpful in "triangulating" the intended object of understanding. The material is challenging to follow as it requires developing and maintaining an experiential knowledge of subtle (yet perceivable) mental phenomena (such as "knowing") and complex relationships among these phenomena. By way of further triangulation, the material appears to address the difference between the "autonomist" schools and the "consequentialist" schools of Tibetan Buddhism that are outined in Guy Newland's "Appearance and Reality". The key area of belief that Tsong-Ka-Pa, Wittgenstein and Thurman address has to with "private languages" and the syllogisms that are based on them. The key message is that these conceptual tools inevitably reinforce the belief in inherent, as opposed to relative, existence. Because of this, private languages and the syllogisms that are based on them provide bases for attachments for negative emotions and thus sources of suffering. Accordingly, these conceptual tools eventually have to be abandoned, in terms of believing that they represent or are based on things that inherently exist, if a person is to achieve liberation from suffering, enlightenment, etc. "The Essence of Eloquence" appears to be aimed as showing exactly why private languages and the syllogisms have this flaw of reinforcing the general belief that things have inherent existence, as opposed to relative existence.

Beware of the Kindle version ... probably better off getting one used if you have time

I will review the content in a bit (and may raise the rating appropriately) ... I got the Kindle edition as my training chief wasn't able to get a hard copy back from previous students in time for the class. First of all, they don't tell you that the product is only licensed to be on two devices ... so, of my smartphone, my desktop, and my laptop, I now get to pick two. This is a lot more annoying than you think when trying to use this in class. It also won't let you display the pages as a two-up (ie, left page and right page at the same time), even though it's a direct electronic copy of the original - all graphics, tables, etc. are formatted correctly and inline with text where they belong (which is why it isn't getting one star).

ok text but does not prepare you for national test you need to know this text inside and out to be sort of prepared for national test . review test in book are nothing like national testing. not specific or detailed enough.
