invaluable book!

lots of great information in this book. I have read over most of it and am heading out these next few weeks to get my training. I have enjoyed reading it and Jeff has a very conservative and intelligent view point on the sport, focusing on safety and good practices to minimize risk. I highly recommend this book to those wanting to learn a good overall amount of knowledge about the sport. Is a great reference book for weather, motor, some airspace map understanding, basic run throughs of first flights and tips on more advanced skills as well. It is a book that means more and more to you as you progress in the sport.

Edit: just had my first flight and wanted to reiterate how important your instructor is. I chose Jose with aerolight in south Florida. He trains foot launch at Delray beach Florida. Great instructor and could not have done it without his expertise. Find one close to you or come fly with us in sunny south Florida for a week!!!

This is the book to get if you're serious about Power Paragliding and staying safe.

This book is a must for all novice Power Paragliders. It teaches you the basics, and then it takes you well beyond.
It's well written, easy to follow, has wonderful and colorful pictures, and it emphasizes safety throughout.
This book is not to be read and followed in place of qualified instruction. That, too, is emphasized. Do not buy this book and expect to skip qualified instruction. Your life, as this book points out, is in your hands when you leave the earth and fly. Again, do not expect this book to take the place of qualified instruction. But begin your training by reading this book, and pick up the 3 DVD's that go hand in hand with this informative book: "Power Paragliding Essentials."
I'm 68 years old, almost 69, and I've been told I will never Power Paraglide. This book tells me I will. It clearly states that, with proper training, your feet can leave the ground and you can fly with the birds, and you can have the time of your life while doing it IF you're not stupid and careless and try doing this wonderful sport on your own.
My suggestiong is to get a quick release harness and practice ground handling before you do anything. This not recommended in "The Powered Paragliding Bible 3," but I've found it to be save and, what's more, exhilerating.

a must for powered paragliding

If you are at all interested in the sport or have already started, I highly recomend this book. I got this knowing that I would be going through training, it was a great help in getting started. I learned much by just reading the book. PPG Bible is loading with illistrations which really helps a person in understanding what is being said. I also highly recomend you get proffessional training along with the book and that you don't just try ppg on your own.

Recognizing the rottenness of the colonial administration, he greatly admires Minke, crusading newspaper editor and nationalist fighter against Dutch imperialism, considering him a man of principle. Yet, as an obedient tool of the Netherlands Indies' ruling elite in the period from 1912 through the end of WWI, Pangemanann feels duty-bound to crush Minke and the native movement he represents, whether by arrest, torture or counterinsurgency terrorism. The first three volumes of Pramoedya's quartet (This Earth of Mankind; Child of All Nations; Footsteps)?written during the author's 14-year banishment, 1965-1979, to the prison island of Buru?were narrated by Minke, a progressive witness of world events. Here, by filtering the anti-colonialist struggle through Pangemanann's ambivalent, warped perspective, Pramoedya spikes his epic saga with slyly modernist irony, creating a work that is as subversive today as when it was written. Police Commissioner Pangemanann embodies all the conflicts of an East Indies native working for the Dutch colonial government at the dawn of the 20th century. Though drawn to support his people's emerging nationalism, he is duty-bound by his European superiors to thwart it by any means, either legal or illegal. Thus, he becomes an expert in the growing nationalist movement spawned by charismatic writer Minke, and, while filled with admiration for his target, he plots to destroy Minke and his followers through a campaign of arrests, exile, and violence. Success wins promotion and greater power, but the price is great as well, for hypocrisy and corruption eat at Pangemanann's soul, destroying his marriage, his career, and, ultimately, his sanity. This final novel in Toer's "Buru" tetralogy completes his examination of the conflict between colonialism and nationalism begun in This Earth of Mankind (LJ 9/1/91). However, with Minke in exile and Pangemanann as its narrator, House of Glass founders in cultural polemics and misses the vivid description and characterizations that marked the earlier works. Fascinating insight into Indonesian mind and history

The great strength of this book is its thoughtful exploration of the often contradictory lures of Westernisation and nationhood for the early 20th-century Dutch East Indies. But for me, the real eye-opener was the insight it provided into the Javanese mind and its thought processes. It was illuminating to read the narrator's reactions to certain situations and statements -- I often found myself being surprised by the conclusions the narrator drew from the events around him, but eventually came to realise that the gap between his reactions and mine is exactly the gap between western and Indonesian culture with which the narrator is wrestling. The result is a book that makes the western reader more aware and appreciative of the differences between Indonesian and western culture and thinking, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each. And on the political side, the parallels between the Dutch colonial authority and the modern Indonesian government are striking. A must read for anyone spending time in Indonesia.
Side note: I was a little distracted by the phrasing, which was often choppy or even clumsy at times. Translation troubles?

A colonial middleman's dilemna

This book tells the story of Jacques, a native Indonesian policeman, and his conflict in carrying out the law of his European bosses to provide for his family. He seeks the rank and monetary priviledges of climbing up the administrative ladder, even though no native has been fully accepted in higher circles. But this same Western law demands that he attempt to destroy a well-known and loved native nationalist, Minke, whom Jacques greatly admires. As the story progresses and Jacques is given greater rank and responsibility in suppressing nationalist sentiment, the policeman feels his self-respect, integrity, and health slipping away. Every day is a constant battle to reconcile his own needs with those of his own people. His emotional and physical struggles are depicted in beautiful, flowing prose and dialogue. If ever a book could describe the colonial experience from the perspective of the native elite working within the European framework, this would be it

I thought it was great!

The character development and subtleties of the story as it progressed really got my attention. This book inspired me to read the other three books of the quartet, though I would recommend reading them in order. References to some of the minor characters of this book (which were major ones of earlier books) were confusing without the context of the first three, but echo larger with that context. The shift in perspective, revolving around events common to the third book but covering different ground, was done extremely well.
The author captures the erratic, rising wave of nationalism seeping out of an awakening people, and immerses the reader in the context of the age, without shying away from a lurking sense of tragedy.

Didn't find this helpful for me.

I thought that this would have more ideas in it and other things to help me with decorating the cakes that I make but it didn't really. I am giving it a 4 star though because I think it is a good book to learning how to decorate a cake I have been doing it for a few years so a lot of the stuff in it I already knew I was thinking it would have had more in it but I still think for someone starting out it would be a good book.

Wonderful, insightful, encouraging and extremely informative. And as the title suggests, very easy to understand.
Not to mention the AWESOME recipes included.
I've never decorated a cake before but have wanted to for some time. I'm thankful that this was the first book I bought. It's broken everything down and is very encouraging for those newbies like me. My first cake was absolutely gorgeous, though slightly lopsided, and wonderfully tasty.

John Grisham and Tom Clancy: your careers are safe.

I question my motives each time I read a book written by Danielle Steele. Her writing style is atrocious, and the thin plot lines are formulaic. DANGEROUS GAMES is no exception. A book billed as riveting political intrigue brings to mind works by John Grisham and Tom Clancy. DANGEROUS GAMES, with its misleading title, is instead a mockery of every suspenseful, gripping novel of political intrigue I have ever read.

Alix Phillips, a television correspondent, and Ben Chapman, her cameraman, seemingly work every story on the globe. Whether a riot in the South, or protests in Iran, or a scandal in the French government, or an earthquake in China, (all happening within a period of weeks, mind you), this intrepid pair will be front and center of the news coverage. Alix even finds time to uncover a domestic political scandal of epic proportions. To even a casual consumer of mainstream media, this scenario is preposterous. Imagine Woodward and Bernstein taking time out from their investigation of Watergate to cover stories of international disasters. And, by the way, even Woodward and Bernstein worked as a reportorial team.

The domestic scandal is the meat of the story. Working with the intelligence community, including an entity called the Clandestine Service, Alix interviews the reclusive Jackie Kennedy-esque widow of a beloved U.S. senator who was gunned down by an unknown assailant. Olympia Foster's only friend is Tony Clark, the Vice President of the United States. The feds smell a rat and count on Alix, reporter extraordinaire, to flush out the story.

As with every Danielle Steele book I have read, I wonder if she has an editor. Run-on sentences are her stock in trade. One lengthy paragraph in particular caught my attention. I counted nine complete declarative sentences with unrelated subjects, separated one after the other by a comma. How does this pass muster with even a junior editor, I wonder.

I also call Danielle Steele the Master of Minutiae. At the end of one long sentence about Alix's and Ben's breakfast, comes the following (and I am paraphrasing): "...Ben picked a chocolate croissant from the tray, took a bite and thought it was homemade, but the croissants were actually baked at XYZ Bakery down the street and delivered to the hotel." Why would anyone, including Ben, care where his croissant is made? This kind of minutiae does nothing to advance the story and makes me wonder if Danielle Steele is paid by the word. Adding detail, such as what Ben has for breakfast, humanizes the character, but tacking on the history of the croissant is unnecessary.

I take no pleasure at writing negative reviews and see by the many glowing writeups that I am expressing a minority opinion. Danielle Steele has many ardent fans who love DANGEROUS GAMES. This review is not personal. I am merely presenting my honest opinion.

This was the first time I read this author. I was amazed that her novels had sold so many copies.There were too many compound sentences connected with "ands." Her writing was at a low level with many repetitions. The plot left nothing to the imagination. I assume the author must have been a better writer in the past to have garnered such renown.

Great stories

I really liked all four of the books that came with this set. They are all part of the same series. They are all high quality eroticas that are a lot of fun to read through. I really liked the idea of showing stuff from the perspective of other characters. The characters keep progressing and developing more and more through the books. Although the best part is definitely they sex scenes, they are really detailed.

If you want some high quality erotica for a really good price, this collection is a good choice.

Just finished reading the series and without a doubt is my favourite so far of all I have read (and I have loved allof her books so far) I really like how it shows it from Ethan's point of view also, so many books only show the female characters side of thinking and like most women, I like to know what goes on inside a man's head also, LOL! Her writing keeps getting better and better and it was great to start with. I would really love to see a full length novel also :)

At first I thought this was going to be another stupid erotic story, but I pushed through the first part and was happy that it actually got better. If you like menage, light BDSM and two sexy men then this is the book for you.

Admittedly Hailey annoyed me in the beginning but she is young. As the story went along I ignored her angst and irritating behaviour and just went with the storyline. It's a good quick read.

Far better than most others

This is a well thought out Algebra textbook. I started teaching from it earlier this year and have grown to appreciate it very much. I am especially pleased the more I compare this to other books. Most math books these days are little more than pretty colors, crazy fonts, neat pictures, lots of distractions, and very little actual math instruction. This book, on the other hand, actually focuses on the math, explains it reasonably well, and has great sets of real example problems and practice problems of all difficulty levels, including lots of practical problems that aren't forced or contrived. It is not perfect, but it is the best I have seen.

Pros:
*Lots of math rather than lots of silly distractions
*Appropriate difficulty level - not "dumbed down"
*Good examples worked out and explained
*Good problem sets for homework and practice

Cons:
*Some explanations are just a bit short, although most are good
*Factoring, the hardest topic, is early in the book, which makes it difficult for some students
